With Fall colours oozing from every hilltop, it's easy to understand why my October calendar is bursting at the seams. And yet, I'd never been to this gem Laura and Dan introduced me to just up the road in Midland, Ontario - a hilly Fall oasis of colour I hadn't a clue about. Always on the prowl for new places to shoot, I had no idea the beauty that awaited.Laura did her Pinterest homework and arrived with all kinds of awesome ideas/props for their save the dates, ring shots etc - I love when couples put so much thought into their photos! They even arrived with custom Tim Horton's coffee lids, Canadian couple ehh.
But enough from me, let's hear their engagement story in Laura's own words below...
HOW DID YOU MEET:
Laura: We met at a bar downtown Barrie through mutual friends. Neither of us were planning/wanting to go downtown that night. But I was happy I did when I laid eyes on him. His eyes were what got me ;) I finally got home that night at about 3am!
Dan: At a bar that I did not want to go to but one of my best friends took me down to.
WHAT YOU REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR FIRST DATE:
Laura: Our first date, I remember it all, we went for dinner downtown Barrie at a little Italian restaurant Ilbuco. Then we went to play pool at the Bayfield Mall to kill some time before going to a movie.
Dan: We went down town to a pasta place.
WHEN YOU KNEW:
Laura: I knew not long into our relationship, I just felt so comfortable around him, he made me happy, which wasn't easy back then. I just knew.
Dan: After about 4 years.
THE PROPOSAL, HOW DID IT GO DOWN:
Laura: I already knew he was going to propose, I know him too well sometimes. I knew his whole plan, when he was doing it where,etc. I told our mutual friend that was also watching our daughter that night. How I knew all this stuff. She played it off cool and then texted Dan to tell him I knew. So they planned an alternative just to keep me surprised.
Not going to lie after dinner (the restaurant we went to on our first date 5 years previous) I was a little disappointed, was sure he was going to propose, but nothing. We get to our friends house to pick up our daughter and I went to the backyard and it was beautifully decorated, candle lit, flowers all out. And he came around the corner popped the question and that was that:) simple and perfect just like us.
Dan: Went out for dinner on our 5th year anniversary. But waiting till we got back to the baby sitters.
ONE THING THEY LOVE ABOUT THE OTHER:
Laura: I love how much he loves me and our kids, he is an amazing dad and I love that! And of course his eyes!Dan: Best mother in the world to our kids, lets me fish most times I want to. lol
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ON YOUR WEDDING DAY:
Laura: I cannot wait to see how happy he looks. I'm excited to hear his vows also!
Dan: Party with all our family and friends.
