Sunnidale Park Engagement in Barrie, Ontario
Sunnidale Park engagement session in Barrie, Ontario
Lindsay, Curtis and myself rolled into Sunnidale Park for their engagement photo session just in time to catch some awesome sunset-y fall colour. These two Jays fans laughed, teased and clung to one another - my kinda couple! I'm keeping my portion short and sweet here because they shared a whole lotta awesomeness below... enjoy!
HOW DID THEY MEET:
Curtis and I met at work. I had graduated from university fairly recently and was starting my first full time job as a Registered Nurse at a maximum security psychiatric facility. I was pretty shy but always heard people talking about this guy who worked there named Curtis, saying he was the nicest guy they'd ever met. We both got invited to a group Jay's game organized by a friend from work and after a few innings Curtis offered me his sweater as he noticed I looked cold (I know, classic move right!).
A few months later Curtis got offered a contract position on the floor I was working on and we started building our friendship over twelve hour shifts together. As our friendship progressed we both realized how we truly felt about each other and as they say - the rest is history!
WHAT DO THEY REMEMBER ABOUT THEIR FIRST DATE:
Lindsay: Our first date was for lunch at Jack Astors. Curtis and I had this routine of going out for lunch at Pizza Hut (who can turn down all-you-can-eat pizza?!) every couple of weeks with our friend Brittany. One day, Brittany told us last minute she couldn't make it so we decided to try something different. I didn't even realize we were on a date until the bill came and Curtis paid for my meal! After lunch Curtis dropped me off at my place where we pretty much shared an awkward "bye" then he drove away.
Two minutes later I get a text from Curtis saying he was thirsty, so he drives back to my house for a glass of water!! It wasn't until two hours later that I realized his real reason for coming back - he wanted a goodbye hug and felt like he missed his chance the first time (Aw!).
Curtis: I remember our first date was at Jack Astors. We usually had our Pizza Hut "dates" for lunch but we decided to switch things up. I always enjoyed spending time with Lindsay but this truly felt like a first date because I was so nervous. When the bill came I paid. After the date I drove her home and we hung out for a bit. When I was going to leave I wanted to give her a kiss but I ended up just saying "goodbye". Shortly after I texted her saying I had to come back, when I came back I gave her a hug but I really wanted to give her a kiss.
WHEN THEY KNEW:
Lindsay: I knew Curtis was the one for me when I realized that he truly was as genuine a person as people had described him to be (which didn't take very long at all). He could make me laugh like no one else and for the first time in my life I felt completely comfortable just being myself. We have so much in common - our love for the Blue Jays and our shared ability to recite every line from Dumb and Dumber being two very important examples (haha). I knew that he was someone I could be happy with for the rest of my life.
Curtis: I've never felt more comfortable with anyone than I do with Lindsay. She is a person that makes me feel confident and I enjoy her company 24/7. I think I knew she was the one after two weeks of dating. I know I could honestly say I loved her after that short period of time; it's like I had known Lindsay all my life and we were two people that were meant to be. We have so many shared interests and she makes my life that much better everyday! We have experienced so much together, such as travelling, concerts and sports games, and there's no one I'd rather do these things with.
THE PROPOSAL:
Lindsay: I remember it was a Friday night and I was sitting on the couch watching the Jay's game. Curtis was acting very fishy - he kept running upstairs to "check" something and then would reappear seeming totally distracted. I had a cold and I remember saying I wanted to take some medicine and go to bed early. I reached for a blanket behind Curtis and he jumped a bit then started reaching under the couch cushion frantically.
By this point I figured something was definitely up and when I turned to look at him he said "I have something I'd like to say to you" and started reading from a handwritten note he pulled out of his pocket. I looked over the top of the page as he was reading and saw that at the bottom he had written "Will you marry me?" - he hadn't even gotten to that part yet and already my heart was doing somersaults in my chest. He asked me to marry him and showed me the most beautiful ring I had ever seen - one that was so very "me" and he had picked out on his own. I said "yes" while in my head I was screaming "YAY!!".
ONE THING THEY LOVE ABOUT ONE ANOTHER:
Lindsay: I love how supportive Curtis is and how he always encourages me to be myself. He pushes me to go after my dreams, even the going on four year plan-in-the-making to go back to school for my Masters. And he knows that listening to me have daily "conversations" with our dog Bailey is just a part of being with me - and he wouldn't change me at all.
Curtis: I love how affectionate Lindsay is. She's always ready to cuddle on the couch when we're watching a movie or hold my hand when we're out for a walk. She's waiting with a hug whenever I need it.
WHAT ARE THEY LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ON THEIR DAY:
Lindsay: The photography! Haha seriously though, I always wanted to get married at a vineyard so the idea that I'll get to look over wedding photos for the rest of my life taken at such a picturesque location is a huge deal for me - it's like a dream come true :)
Curtis: Celebrating with family and friends on one of the most important days of my life and starting the next chapter in my life with Lindsay.
