Eloping in beautiful Muskoka is made easier when you select the right location
I live and play right here in Muskoka – the beautiful landscape of lakes, rocks and wilderness are unmatched in this part of Canada. It’s also my go-to region where I shoot the majority of my weddings. The past few years Muskoka has also become the go-to region for couples looking for elopement venues.
Once you’ve decided an elopement is right for you, it’s time to select your location. I’ve included some of my favourite Muskoka elopement venues below:
Best Places to Elope in Muskoka:
- Sherwood Inn
- Killbear Provincial Park
- Muskoka Soul (Small groups only)
- Severn Lodge (Seasonal)
- Trillium Resort
- Northridge Inn
- Touchstone Resort
If an all-in-one venue isn’t your cup of tea, another great option is to look for Muskoka properties on Airbnb. You’ll find all kinds of unique short-term rentals available year round. You can find my Muskoka elopement packages here.
SHERWOOD INN – Year Round
Nestled on the shores of beautiful Lake Joseph, Sherwood Inn is one of Muskoka’s most popular destinations for weddings and elopements. Everything you need is right here from multiple ceremony locations to on-site accommodations to some of the best, best, best food in their cozy dining room.
KILLBEAR PROVINCIAL PARK – Seasonal Spring to Fall
A provincial park may not have crossed your mind initially, however I’ve had the pleasure of shooting at elopement at Killbear Provincial Park in Fall and it was a fantastic experience. In Fall, there are far less campers so plenty of space to explore the trails and rocky shoreline. If you have an outdoorsy, adventurous spirit then I highly recommend eloping in front of the iconic Killbear Tree.
Pro Tip: Reserve campsite #319 in the Beaverdam camping area. It’s located right in front of the Killbear Tree giving you prime access to the tree, beach and rocky shorelines.
MUSKOKA SOUL – Year Round
Muskoka Soul is a private vacation rental (2 locations) near Gravenhurst, Ontario. Each location is a large cottage custom built and designed specifically for intimate group retreats. Both locations are located on the shores of Lake Muskoka and are an ideal destination for an elopement with smaller groups. The main living space is large enough for an indoor ceremony however the dock outside is the prime location at Muskoka Soul.
TRILLIUM RESORT – Year Round
Tucked in snug among 86 acres of beautiful Muskoka forest and woodlands, a spirited waterfall and a semi-private lake, Trillium Resort & Spa offers the perfect “adult only” vacation getaway. The resort accommodations feature six chalets overlooking the lake, a chalet overlooking the waterfall, and ten cottages set amid towering hardwoods. Every season offers a variety of recreational activities. Any season is beautiful at Trillium. I’ve written a more comprehensive review for Trillium Resort weddings here.
NORTHRIDGE INN – Seasonal Spring, Summer, Fall
You’ll find Northridge Inn on the southernmost tip of Lake Bernard (the world’s largest fresh water lake without an island). They’re known for their beautiful waterfront views, old world charm and amazing food. Northridge is small enough to make you feel like you were vacationing at a boutique hotel yet large enough to offer all the amenities one expects to find with a large Muskoka Resort.
SEVERN LODGE – Seasonal Spring, Summer, Fall
Severn Lodge’s main lodge was originally built in the mid 1800’s when it was the area headquarters for the Georgian Bay Lumber Company. With it’s timeless tradition – their weddings have evolved over the years. They attend to every detail so that you and your guests can relax and take it all in.
TOUCHSTONE RESORT – Year Round
Touchstone on Lake Muskoka offers a mix of classic Muskoka lake views and upscale accommodations. Enjoy the infinity pool and other deluxe amenities while taking in the best of Muskoka. Take part in the recreational opportunities Touchstone has to offer – from boating to golf it is all just outside your doorstep at Touchstone.
