Nicolena and Kyle's winter wedding at Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario
On a chilly February we rolled into Deerhurst Resort - primed and ready for Nicolena and Kyle's waterfront wedding ceremony! Mother Nature cooled things down and didn't let up, letting everyone know who was boss. But she did relent and grant Nicolena her light snowfall wish right on kiss-cue.
Everything ran so smooth... Nicolena had a vision for her wedding day then coordinator Haley and her team at Deerhurst put on quite a show pulling it all together despite the chilly Muskoka air!
I'll zip it now and let Nicolena and Kyle tell their story in their own words...
HOW DID THEY MEET
Nicole is my Tinderella! I moved to Parry Sound with a friend on a whim, after a month I matched with Nicole and told her, "I know it's late, but you are just too pretty to not say hi to."
WHAT DO THEY REMEMBER ABOUT THEIR FIRST DATE
We talked about how Nicole wanted to revisit Vietnam and backpack through Southeast Asia. Which we did together two years later. I was wearing a green shirt with an orange Nike symbol... green and orange from the start.. spooky! We found out quickly that we shared many of the same interest and values as it was easy to talk to each other. When we said goodbye, Nicole sealed it with a kiss!.. Yes on the first date!
WHEN THEY KNEW
Nicolena: I knew I was in love with him when we went for dinner at the Swiss Country House in Parry Sound. The time, place and atmosphere all lined up and I realized he was special.
Kyle: We were tobogganing at her parents house and on our last run we laid in the snow in front of the lake. I looked up at the stars and back at her, and while being surrounded by everything that brings me joy, I realized she was the last piece to make it all perfect.
THE PROPOSAL, HOW DID IT GO DOWN
I had been saving for the ring for about a year. When I finally paid it off and it was in my possession, I just could not wait and decided to do it on our May 2-4 camping trip at Six Mile campground. I had told my friend Sean that I was going to do it and I would need him to put a song on at the appropriate time.
After a day and many hours of rehearsal in my head (completely zoned out from any other conversation that had been going on,) I asked Sean to put on "Greatest Love Story - by Lanco." As my other friend Matt filmed, I went over to Nicole and asked her "Can I get you anything?" She replied "Maybe after this song." I asked her again "What if I want to get you something forever?"
In her confusion, I got down on one knee and promised her I would kiss her every morning and every night if she would marry me. I showed her the ring and with hands full of tears, she said yes!
WHAT DID THEY LOVE MOST ABOUT THEIR WEDDING
Nicolena: The Ceremony was absolutely perfect. I wanted it to lightly snow and it happened right as we were saying "I Do!"
Kyle: I was so pleased with how all of our décor came together to give all the feels that we wanted. I will always remember that first chance I got to look up and see my bride for the first time.

Make all of your bigger purchases as soon before the wedding as possible. Enjoy the process and the planning with your partner. You are still getting married to the person you love and it should all be a positive experience shared together.

Make the effort to show your Groomsmen and Bridesmaids how much they mean to you. Incorporate some aspect that keeps them involved and express to them in other ways that you care about them as well.

WHAT MADE THEM CHOOSE DEERHURST RESORT?
We were very impressed with our first impressions of Deerhurst and knew right away that it was where we wanted to get married. However, we were not sold on it as there were a few cons that just did not work for us. Luckily, we found out that Deerhurst did a winter wedding theme and the cons of the summer wedding were no longer relevant. The originality that we could now have, along with the luxury of the resort atmosphere was exactly what we wanted.
