Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Wedding

Fun in the sun at Lisa and Jose's Majestic Punta Cana wedding

What do you get when you combine a Puerto Rican groom with a beautiful Swedish bride?  I had no idea but I was super-excited to find out at Lisa and Jose's destination wedding at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana!

Lisa is just the sweetest, kindest Bride and I knew we were going to hit it off on their wedding day.  Jose... well he made me work a little to get that handsome, silky-smooth smile out of him!  These two were a delight to shoot - they make me look good as their sole focus was that each other had the perfect day.  That type of love is easy to shoot, it's always right there to be had.

And talk about party... the Puerto Rican and Swedish families brought entirely different approaches to their wedding reception festivities.  After keeping up with the unique speeches and non-stop dancing, live band, DJ and Dominican trio band I'm pretty sure I can keep up with anything.  Party is an understatement!I'm so thankful they had me along for their day, a kinder and happier couple I have yet to meet.

Let's hear about their day in their own words - scroll on...

HOW DID YOU MEET AND WHAT WAS THE SPARK:

Lisa: We met at the Orlando International airport around 2001 (after 9/11). The airline I worked for had an incident a year or so later (2002/2003) and Jose’ had to come to our offices to do a thorough investigation. My former coworkers tried to set us up. He eventually asked me out in Sep 2003 :) The spark? He was a very nice guy - tough on the outside, softer on the inside. His smile made me notice him :)

Jose:  We met at work (Orlando International Airport), while doing liaison with the airlines and working an incident on a Virgin Atlantic (VA) flight. She worked for VA.  Her beauty.

WHAT DID YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR WEDDING?

Lisa: That so many (63) family and friends chose to come and celebrate our day with us. It was truly a family reunion. Loved the idea of a destination wedding as I am on call 24/7 at home due to my job. This way, I could relax as well as all our guests. No one had to go home to do the regular chores etc. An all-inclusive resort added to the convenience as our guests did not have to worry about any additional costs once they got there. We went to visit a few resorts a year ago, and Majestic Colonial was the best in our eyes.

Jose: Being able to spend time with our families.

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR DAY:

Lisa: The butterflies in my stomach at our 1st look. The walk down the aisle towards the garden gazebo where Jose’ was waiting. It was pure happiness & joy! Such an amazing feeling.

Jose:  Watching her wearing the wedding dress, she was a beautiful bride.  Spending time together.

A COMMENT ABOUT YOUR BRIDE/HUSBAND:

Lisa: After almost 12 years together, I know him pretty well. He is just the most kind-hearted, honest and funny man I know. We have been through a lot due to his accident in 2007. When something like that happens, it completely changes your perspective on Life! Little things I used to worry about or get upset about just don't matter anymore.

Jose: She is beautiful and has a big heart

A TIP FOR FUTURE BRIDES FROM LISA:

Don’t sweat the small stuff. Go for what you want. Don’t worry if a few things don’t go as planned. It will still be ok. If things go astray, find a solution (eye-lash glue to fix a shoe-sole LOL). Enjoy the planning and every step on the way. Do not become a Bridezilla. After all, this is your special day. Make the most of it :)

A TIP FOR FUTURE GROOMS FROM JOSE:

Enjoy your wedding.

COMMENTS FOR FUTURE COUPLES ABOUT THE MAJESTIC, EXCURSIONS, VENDORS ETC.

Lisa: Great resort for larger families. Good value for $$$. The wedding coordinators (Jessica) are great. They will take care of everything and anything. They can accomplish all of your wishes. Sometimes you may have to wait until you get to the resort to explain in person. They are very accommodating, We did the zipline tour (12 zip lines) and a 30min helicopter ride. Both were great.

We had 2 outside vendors - Krystie Ann hair & makeup - she is absolutely Fantastic! And Vaughn as our photographer.  I am so pleased with the few photos I have seen so far. I could not have made a better choice! He is  an amazing photographer.

Normally I prefer to take photos rather than being in them. You made all of us feel at ease and it was fun!

Jose: Its an excellent resort for a destination wedding. Zipline Adventures by Runners Adventures is fun and a well run operation. Twelve ziplines, at different heights and distances.
