Backyard Wedding near Orillia

Outdoor wedding in Orillia

One for the ages, Lindsay and Albert’s rip roaring backyard wedding

The Walker crew threw one helluva shindig in their DIY Orillia backyard wedding!  They whipped their yard into shape over the past year with everything falling into place just in time.  A big tip of the hat to Lindsay for the outstanding decor and design of everything from the wedding arch to the reception tent and the countless small details at every turn - bravo Mrs Walker!

It's been such a pleasure shooting and getting to know them from their engagement session in Orillia last fall through their wedding and I'm looking forward to some fun family photos later this month!  But first let's take a second to hear how Lindsay and Albert's day went down in their own words...

WHAT DID THEY LOVE MOST ABOUT THEIR WEDDING?

Lindsay: Hmm, where do I start? I LOVED our first look, it was exactly what I had imagined it to be and more. Standing behind Albert before he saw me was so exciting and thrilling for both of us. I could tell Albert was nervous so I quietly told him how cute his butt looked in his suit. When Albert turned around the look on his face is still embedded in my mind, he told me how beautiful I was and asked if I was wearing new glasses (which made us laugh even harder) The entire day was so relaxed after that moment, it was such a private ice breaker.

The rest of the day was a breeze with no nerves just pure emotion and love. Our wedding party was great, we all trucked through the muddy fields laughing (especially my brother in law Arthur, oh that laugh!) When we got back our son Felix was jumping off the walls excited to do such an important job as our ring bearer. The ceremony was so relaxed and I believe it was because we were able to spend a few hours before hand with each other.

After the ceremony, the caterers informed me that our cake was melting. We laughed and placed it in the fridge because a melting cake wasn't going to ruin our day! The food was amazing, drinks were cold and we danced the night away!

Albert: Favourite moment hands down was seeing my bride in her dress, she is so beautiful inside and out and I love her very much. When both Felix and Lindsay walked down the aisle I had tears of joy, they are everything to me.  Another memorable moment: Lindsay had to remind me what I had to say at the ceremony. "No", "We are", "I promise" and most importantly "I do". I couldn't remember the order they went in, but we pulled it off...

A COMMENT ABOUT THEIR NEW BRIDE/HUSBAND:

Lindsay: Albert is such an amazing husband to me and father to Felix, I honestly have no idea what I would do without him and the laughter he brings to our family.

Albert: She is less crazy now that the wedding planning is over, now we're just crazy in love.

A TIP FOR FUTURE BRIDES FROM LINDSAY:

Enjoy your day and let the small things go. We were supposed to have 90% chance of rain and I was ok with that, it wasn't something I could control. It spit while we had hair/makeup done and was beautiful the rest of the day. Even stayed overcast for better pictures!!

A TIP FOR FUTURE GROOMS FROM ALBERT:

"Yes dear" will be your best response when planning a wedding. Oh and buy lots of extra booze for the bar, like double what you think people will drink.

WHAT CHALLENGES AND ADVANTAGES DID THEY HAVE WITH A BACKYARD WEDDING?

Advantages were that we didn't have to travel far, we didn't forget anything as we got ready at home and it was comfortable. We got to do our wedding our way, hay bales and all. The arch is still sitting in the same place it was for the ceremony, it is now a conversation piece. Albert killed two birds with one stone and now has a fantastic handmade barn board bar for his man cave.

A lot more work and planning comes from a back yard wedding. We put down sod in May and with no rain this summer, all we did was water grass every night until September. Bathrooms, because we are on a septic we rented higher grade porta potties. Hydro, I only had so many outdoor plugs so a wedding grade generator was needed. Then parking, a Limo bus shuttled guests from a nearby parking lot to the house all night and was well worth it!

Getting married in our own backyard made it so much more personal and relaxing for us, we got to sleep in our own beds!
